Either your right shoe first or your left shoe you put on habitually every morning. By either passing the right- hand lace around behind the left-hand lace, or vice versa, almost always, you tie your shoes this way. Tomorrow morning ascertain which shoe you put on first and how you secure your shoes. Now, consciously determine that for the next 21 days you are going to form a new habit by putting on the other shoe initially and fastening your shoelaces in a different way.

Now, each morning, let this simple act work as a reminder to change other habitual ways of reasoning, acting and feeling throughout that one day, as you determine to put on your shoes in a certain manner. Affirm to yourself as you bind your shoes, “I am beginning the day in a new and improved way.” Then, consciously determine that during the day: (1) I will brush aside completely and close my mind to all those discouraging and negative “facts” which I can do zilch to change.|I will close my mind and brush aside completely all those pessimistic and negative “facts” which I can do zilch to alter.|All those pessimistic and negative “facts” which I can do naught to alter, I will close my mind and brush aside completely.} (2) Regardless of what occurs, I will respond as logically and as intelligently as possible. (3) At least three times during the day, I will practice smiling. (4) My own opinion will not be permitted to change facts in a disheartening or harmful way. (5) I am going to act, insofar as possible, as if I already am the sort of personality I wish to be and success is unavoidable. “Becoming like” and “Acting like ” this new personality is what I will practice. (6) A little more tolerant and a little less faultfinding and of other people, their failings, mistakes and thoughtless acts, is what I vow to be. The best possible representation of their actions is what I will grant. (7) More compassionate toward other people is how I will try to act and feel. (8) I will be as chirpy as possible. Uncomplicated? Yes. However, constructive and beneficial impact on your self-image, each of the above habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and acting, does have. Let 21 days be the time frame to play with these actions. “Own” them, and see if confidence has not been magnified, and guilt, hostility, and worry have not been diminished.
